Does Cee-Lo and Mixtape go together? I mean, if anyone knows how to criss cross genres I think it would have to be Mr. Green. I know, I know, a mixtape. But you know how you always have a crazy mix of music? Then you put it on shuffle and some random, out of the blue shit comes up? Well, think of it as having all your music on ONE playlist (I almost feel like I’m speaking for myself, but maybe I’m Crazy). But anyways, here it is.

Mayor Hawthorne goes hard on this one (well as hard as his summertime and lemonade self can go).
He also hyphenates the shit out of all the words in the title…

The madman that is Theophilus London is dropping a mixtape SOOOOOO soon that I can taste it. It tastes like osos gomosos.
His last drop “This Charming Mixtape” which we featured and you can cop HERE is still getting the rinse-wash-n-repeat treatment in my car.
SO dope. Seriously.
This track, sampling Marvin Gaye’s “I want you”, just dropped and it is a doooooozie.

Awwwwwww daaaaaaaaamn, that’s fire and you know it. I’m geeked about this tape.

My boo, M.I.A, is on a worldwide crusade to save the redheaded children of the world. Or perhaps those who are treated like red-headed step-children by the powers that be.
For some reason this reminds me of “Children of Men”
weird.

…and quite sexy might I add.
New track off her perhaps new album? I’m not too sure actually. It comes hard though, I know that much.

This is still my favorite live band after all these years. Opened up for Against Me! years ago at the old Capitol Garage in Sacramento, had no idea who they were, and two hours later after screaming barely-learned hooks and moshing with sweaty hippies and hipsters I was a fan.
Their new album is Warren-less (their badass drummer left to open up a taco shop in Florida…. a man of many talents I see) but it still gets the job done.
Ok, I’ll admit, its missing some of the rawness from their first few records. Butch Vig producing has not served them all that well in my opinion. But you can’t always reinvent Axl Rose.
Nonetheless.

[edit: Mr. Ira, this post was pretty much for you, I doubt any of our regular readers are much into folk-punk. Consider it an early graduation gift.

I did. Because I’m from there. And I’m awesome. (See how that works itself out there? Sweet deal.)
Most all things Argentinean are near and dear to my heart. Gotan Project are no exception. Mixing up Tango (GoTan= TanGo) in a linguistic switcheroo common in the Buenos Aires region (cafe=feca and so on) these three guys have taken the folkloric and tango music of a romanticized Argentina, added some dope beats, and modernized the shit out of it.

These guys make music from an Argentina where Maradona isn’t a fat wasted little man, where “El Che” Guevara is more than a poster boy for things he never stood for, and Eva Peron actually represented hope for the lower classes and was not some Madonna side project. (Sorry, was that a little too deep for this kind of blog? I think so. I apologize. We’ll keep it surface-level.)
Nonetheless, Gotan’s new project (get it? get it?) titled “Tango 3.0″ dropped April 19th. It’s their third disk of greatness and I’m just pressing play on it right now. Quite nice so far. Their lead single off the album “La Gloria” has a video with two afro-ed out twins dancing in sand and the three Dudes themselves.

This is my homeboy’s first album entitled, “While Floating.”
The track, “Past Lives” reminds me of an ordinary human emerging into a superhero. I imagine the character in a dark alley bruised and beat up. Hard rain is falling as he looks up at the starless sky and realizes that he is no longer who he used to be. Hah.! Or something of that sort…..
You can appreciate the array of musical taste from knocking bass lines, “Seventy-eight,” to the Spanish-influenced, “Adept.” I can’t help but move my hips when I hear it.
Please enjoy. =D
